An Integrated Approach For Complete Lightning Protection Solution

Lightning is a giant spark of electricity in the atmosphere or between the atmosphere and the ground. In the initial stages of development, air acts as an insulator between the positive and negative charges in the cloud and between the cloud and the ground; however, when the differences in charges become too great, this insulating capacity of the air breaks down, and there is a rapid discharge of electricity that we know as lightning.

Traditional lightning protection systems provide a specified path or redirection of the lightning potential to less volatile locations.

Today, society has evolved to include sophisticated communications, computers, networks, power, power generation, GPS, space travel, air travel, and many more, but many companies are still using a lightning protection system that goes back to the 1700s. Today’s standards are still rooted in the Ben Franklin system and include the National Fire Protection Agency NFPA 780 and Underwriters Laboratory (UL). Their primary mission is founded on structural protection and personal safety, but they are not geared to electronic integrity and lightning elimination.

That is why LEC recommends an integrated approach for a complete Lightning protection solution.

We recommend a systems approach that provides total isolation utilizing a model similar to the 3 legs of a stool. Those three legs are Direct Strike Protection, Strategic Surge Protection (on A/C power, data lines, and control lines), and Grounding Protection, all working together as a system, as a team, providing total isolation.

Lightning Eliminators and Consultants, Inc. (LEC) does not follow the traditional approach of lightning protection by providing a "preferred lightning collection point."

LEC's Charge Transfer System (patented as the Dissipation Array System or DAS) uses a naturally occurring, scientific phenomenon called point discharge to retard the collection of lightning within a finite protection zone. LEC does not attract the lightning. LEC's system lowers the static field in the protected area long enough for the lightning strike to terminate outside the protected area. The DAS is engineered for the specific application or site.

With over 35,000 years of actual system in-field operation and proven success in minimizing the effects of lightning, LEC’s lightning protection system is the smart risk reduction choice for critical systems.

Choose your lightning protection system wisely.
